James Sur, MD

James Sur, MD, is the Council Chair of Peripheral Intervention for CorVita Science Foundation (CSF). 


Dr. James Sur is an interventional cardiologist with over ten years of experience specializing in both coronary and peripheral interventions.  He additionally has special interests in evaluating and treating patients diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. He is a private practitioner with Heart Care Centers of Illinois who has hospital privileges at several hospitals in the southwest suburbs. He has focused his expertise with pulmonary hypertension as part of the pulmonary hypertension program at Advocate Christ Medical Center where is conducting research, evaluating and caring for patients as well as an annual speaker at both the cardiovascular and pulmonary hypertension educational symposia. 

Dr. Sur graduated Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. He then received his M.D. from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine graduating Cum Laude in 2002. At Loyola he was awarded the Loyola Auxiliary Senior Scholarship, was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society as well as the Alpha Omega Alpha Academic Honor Society. Dr. Sur was also awarded the Ralph P. Leischner Memorial Scholarship given to the single senior student who exemplifies “Compassion, Integrity, Enthusiasm and Commitment to Life Long Learning.” 

After medical school, Dr. Sur completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals. While a resident at the U of C, he was awarded the Norris L. Brookens award by the Illinois Chapter of the American College of Physicians recognizing “The State’s Outstanding Resident in Internal Medicine for His Exemplary Dedication to the Medical Profession.”

Dr. Sur started his general cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He then completed his general cardiology fellowship and his interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI. 

He has published both peer-reviewed articles in cardiovascular journals and is an author of a book chapter in a peripheral vascular textbook.  

Dr. Sur is currently board certified in cardiovascluar disease, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology.
